Lamayuru Markha Hemis Trek is an overall moderate one, which starts from Wanla and ends at Hemis. This trek also focuses on monasteries, monks, villagers etc.
Tour Route
Leh / Lamayuru / Hinju / Chilling / Skyu / Markha / Kongmaru La / Hemis / Leh
Leh to Lamayuru, (125 Km /6-7 Hrs)
Drive to Lamayuru, on the way visit Liker and Alchi Monasteries. Overnight stay is in camp or Guest House.
Lamayuru to Wanla (3250m), 2-3 Hrs
Walk down along the stream towards east then after 20 minutes cross the stream near a Chorten. Walk along another stream towards southward then east up to the Prikiting La (3700m). After the pass you reach down the river within the Shillakung valley. The trail to the proper also results in Zangskar via Snigutse La. Take the proper trail with chorten and Mani wall. Cross the river and therefore the campsite is reached passing through the homes near the second bridge and tented restaurant.
Wanla to Hinju, 5-6 Hrs
Leave Wanla for Hinju after the breakfast while enjoying nice views of mountains and narrow gorges. The Hinju village has prayer flags at the beginning of the village. Overnight stay is in Hotel.
Hinju to Sumda Chenmo, 5-6 Hrs
Proceed towards Sumda Chenmo via Konski La 4900 mtrs. From where you'll have a view of back route from Pirkiti La. The Valley across the Kanski La features a few huts of shepherds from Hinju where they create butter and cheese. Overnight in Camp.
Sumda Chenmo to Dundunchan La Base, 5-6 Hrs
The trail results in Dundunchan la Base along side Sumda chu . Arrive base of the pass after an honest walk for 4-5 hrs. Overnight in Camp
Dundunchan La base to Chilling, 3-4 Hrs
Have an incredible view from Dundunchan La (4700 mtrs) and trail results in Chilling village where the Zangskar River follows towards Nimo village. Arrive chilling. Overnight within the Guest House.
Chilling – Sku (3500 m), 5 Hrs
We cross the Zanskar River with a trolley bridge turn knowing join the waiting team on the opposite side of the river.
Skiu – Markha (3850 m), 7 Hrs
The trail joins the Markha stream and can follow it for a couple of days. The day’s trek is comparatively easy, but it involves crisscrossing the stream at numerous points counting on the water level. Markha features a monastery and a fort for an area cultural sightseeing.
Markha – Hankar (4000 m), 4 Hrs
Many monasteries are spread along our route today. After the Umlung monastery, the valley narrows and that we stop to camp at the foot of Kang Yaste (6400 m).
Hankar – Nimaling (4650 m), 4 Hrs
Trek within the valley in direction of Zalung Karpo and Rupshu. We undergo Thagshungtse pasture and begin our gradual ascent towards the wonderful high valleys of Ladakh.
Nimaling to Shang Sumdo, 6-7 Hrs
After breakfast start trekking to succeed in Kongmaru La (5100 M). The trek to Kongmaru la passes through narrow gorges. From the highest of the pass, you'll have a view of Ladakh ranges and therefore the sight of villages to the north of Indus valley is superb . Cross the pass and proceed to Shang. Overnight in tents.
Shang Sumdo to Hemis to Leh, 6 Hrs
Walk along the stream right down to Hemis monastery, which is one among the oldest and richest monasteries in Ladakh. Visit Hemis monastery and drive to Leh, enroute visit Thiksey Monastery, Shey Palace and Stok Palace cum museum.
