Trek from Hemis to Stok via Matho-phu is an overall moderate trek.It start from Martselang to Chogdo then on. It focuses more on Remote villages, High mountain & Passes.
Leh / Martselang / Chogdo / Gyuncho La / Shang La / Matho La / Mankarmo / Stok / Leh
Leh to Martselang to Chogdo 3-4 Hrs.
After Breakfast drive to Martselang and begin trekking to Chogdo. Overnight in Camp.
Chogdo – Gyuncho La (4600m) – Camp at 4350m, 6-7 hrs.
From now on, we'll follow a replacement and infrequently traveled route through the valleys to the east of our objective. Today, we turn towards the west into a tributary valley that leads after an extended and gradual ascent to the Gyuncho La. We descent a couple of meters bellow to determine our campsite.
Camp at 4350 m – Shang La (4800m)- Matho Phu (4350m) 6 hrs.
Today, we'll cross many spurs and minor passes with occasional views northwards towards the Indus Valley and therefore the peaks beyond. We climb up to the Shang La then descend to the Tokpo River. Afterwards we'll trek downhill to a pleasant camping place.
Matho Phu – Matho La (4820m) –Mankarmo (4500m) 4-5 hrs.
At the pass, colorful prayer flags flap within the wind, with the Zanskar home in the background. Afterwards, we descend steadily along the Jingchan River. We get great views towards the Stok summit and therefore the Stok Kangri (6121m). Overnight in Camp.
Mankarmo to Stok to Leh.
Morning after the breakfast walk right down to Stok and drive to Leh.
